Protein Types

  • Globular proteins (1)
Fold into compact units. Soluble in aqueous solutions
  • Membrane proteins (2)
Associated with membrane of a cell or organelle.
  • Fibrous proteins (3)
Mainly structural proteins. A characteristic feature of the fibrous protein sequences is the presence of repetitive sequence motifs.
  • Non-globular/Intrinsically unstructured proteins (4)
Regions of proteins or entire proteins that at native conditions may lack ordered structure but in their functional state can undergo disorder-to-order transition.
